Jasmine loves horseback riding and always asks me to find a place to do some horseback riding everywhere we go. Iceland is special in that they have their own variety of very special horses. In addition to having a very heavy coat they also have the unusual characteristic of being able to do two gaits that other non-Icelandic horses can not do. During our ride we were able to experience the tölt, which is about as fast as a trot but is much smoother for the rider

We started by getting a quick intro inside the warm building, got fitted with helmets and gloves then went out back to be paired up with horses based on rider size and experience.

We hopped on and took a ride down the hill and under the main road to this cool volcanic "bubble" landscape nearby. It was interesting but it was a windy day so we got very cold. We were all glad to get back to the stables and back inside the warm office.

The horses relaxed by rubbing each other or rolled around on the ground.
