Just getting that far south from the USA isn't easy. After Melanie's little flight "glitch" leaving Hawaii she ended up getting in a couple hours before us. Our flight departing Miami was delayed a bit and then in Santiago several flights got in shortly before ours and the immigration lines were immense. It took over an hour to get through immigration so we had to cut our city tour a little short.

Santiago is a nice mostly European looking city with hints of that South American charm we've seen elsewhere. The main square was relatively unimpressive. We were then taken to San Cristobal Hill for a view of the Virgin Mary statue at the top but the road near the top was closed due to construction. We could have finished the journey via the stairs but since time was tight we just had to enjoy the views from where we could. What was interesting about Santiago is how many modern buildings there are, most notably the Gran Torre Santiago, the tallest building in all of Latin America.

Then we rushed back to the airport to catch our flight to Punta Arenas.
