The other big site we visited was the Fisher Body Plant 21, the plant that built bodies for many cars. If you're old enough you may remember the plaque "Body by Fisher" on some older cars.

Fisher started making horse-drawn carriages in Detroit in 1908 and within a few years was making bodies for several local car manufacturers. Fisher had more than 40 buildings when they built Fisher Body 21 in 1919. Eventually the company was acquired by General Motors in 1926 and became the in-house coachbuilder for the company. The label "Body by Fisher" was often attached to many GM cars until the early 1980s.
