A few people in our group wanted to see some Mayan ruins while in Belize. Unfortunately there are none on Ambergris so the only option is to take a boat to the mainland and see the ones there. Belize has quite a few but none are as spectacular as Chichen-Itza in Mexico.

We booked through Ecologic Divers and got a decent deal due to the group size. We were picked up at 6:15am from the pier outside the house and taken to the water taxi dock in San Pedro. Due to it being Good Friday they schedule was changed so we ended up waiting quite a while for the next taxi. The taxi also made a stop at the nearby island of Caye Caulker before continuing to Belize City. Made it a 2 hour boat ride each way.

Once in Belize City we were found by our guide David from JR's who drove us the 2 additional hours to the Guatemala border. Fortunately he had a cooler full of cold water and sodas to make the trip more enjoyable. Once at the site we took the unique hand crank powered ferry across a river to the site.

The site was small but in really nice shape. There were only a few buildings and once main pyramid like tower called El Castillo.
