Heavenly Mountain : Tahoe, California : Trip Report

First Day at Heavenly Mountain

What a beautiful day to be on a mountain.

We checked the kids in for ski and snowboarding school next to the Gondola and took the ride up. Along the way the first stop on the Gondola is a scenic outlook just to check out the view. We skipped that and continued to the top.

One thing about Heavenly is that it's a big mountain that's pretty spread out among various peaks. It's not nearly as big as Vail but still a good size. As snowboarders we were really getting annoyed with a couple of the passes from side to side as they are VERY flat and a couple places actually go uphill. There was no way I could build up enough speed to make it up the inclines and had to hike a bit.

The other thing about Heavenly is there are very few black diamond runs that are not mogul runs so as snowboarders we ended up sticking mostly to blue runs which weren't very exciting.

This day we stayed mostly on the Nevada side of the mountain as conditions were pretty ideal. Being mid-March it did get pretty warm in the middle of the day and the sun was always bright.
