Norwegian Dawn Cruise : Trip Report

Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas

Last stop of the trip. Boo hoo.

The last stop was to the private island owned by Norwegian Cruise Line. NCL was the first cruise line to buy a private island back in the 1970's and other cruise lines followed suit. Royal Caribbean in fact bought the island right next door.

This was by far the most relaxing stop as it was easy to get to and everything was there. The food was provided by the same staff. They had snorkel gear and inflatable rafts available for rent and lots of beach chairs. Our kids loved playing in the crystal clear water but still didn't want to snorkel. Howard and I tried the snorkeling first then Vania and Tommy took a turn too. While Tommy and Vina were snorkely Howard and I found a Stingray near shore in the shallow water. The kids got a kick out of watching it from their raft.

Before the end of the day Howard and I went for a walk into the island to see what else was there but we ran out of time. We heard there is a lighthouse but it's a 2 mile walk and we just didn't have enough time to get there and back before it was time to go back to the ship. We were however surpsied to find a sign that said we were leaving NCL property. I guess they don't own the whole island.
