Los Angeles, California : Trip Report

Reference Library

I didn't use that many books to help plan the trip but the ones below are the few that I did find useful. I hope you find them as useful as I did. I also included several links below to websites mentioned elsewhere on this web site as well as other links to histrical information about the sites I discussed.

Books

Fodor's 2002 Los Angeles 2002 Edition
One of the popular guides that are consistently good and complete. The restaurants recommended by this guide that we personally tried were very good.

Frommer's 2002 Los Angeles 2002 Edition
Another typically excellent travel guide. I found this book to have especially good maps.

Lonely Planet Los Angeles 3rd Edition
I didn't take this book with me (forgot it at home) but I did browse it before I left and found it useful.

Boating & Diving Catalina Island 2000 Edition by Bruce Wicklund
This book was recommended by the shop I rented my gear from. As I knew next to nothing about Catalina I wanted to read up on it before diving there. I found this book to have excellent background on the history and geography of Catalina Island but very little useful information about the diving.

Guide to diving Catalina Island 2000 Edition by Bruce Wicklund
I wish the dive shop recommended this one as it seems to be more targeting towards what I was really interested in.

Diving and Snorkeling Guide to the Channel Islands, Including Catalina, Santa Barbara, Anacapan and More by Pisces Book Editors
No personal knowledge about this book but it's cheap and the title sounds promising.

Web Sites

The Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits
The official website of The Page Museum located at the La Brea Tar Pits. This museum is excellent as it has many displays of the skeletons pulled out of the Tar Pits over the years.
Aquarium of the Pacific
The official site of the Aquarium of the Pacific. This museum is located in downtown Long Beach.
Psalty Adventures
Website for the dive operator I used to visit Catalina. It looks very complete and informative. It does look like it could use an update.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame
Useful website that will help you find the location of your favorite star. Remember that the Walk of Fame is several city blocks long with a total of 2130 "fill in" stars so far.
Santa Monica Pier
More information about the Santa Monica Pier including a map and list of food and entertainment vendors.
